The Camino de Santiago

The ancient pilgrim path, also known as The Way of Saint James, is a pilgrimage to the shrine of Apostle Saint James the Greater in the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in northwestern Spain. Tradition has it that the remains of the Saint are buried there.  The Camino began as a strictly Christian pilgrimage centuries ago but has evolved into a spiritual pilgrimage for people of all faiths and cultures. In 2017 over 250,000 pilgrims completed this walk. Pilgrims have an opportunity to grow physically, mentally and spiritually on this journey. Many pilgrims walk with a purpose or intention.

The Camino features several routes. I have chosen Camino Frances (also known as The French Way).  I will begin my journey in Saint Jean Pied-de-Port, France on Thursday, May 17th.  Over the next six weeks I will walk 540 miles from Saint Jean Pied-de-Port, France to Cape Finisterre, Spain. Cape Finisterre in the final destination for many pilgrims. It lies 56 miles beyond Santiago and is literally known as walking to The End of the Earth.  This was European reality until 1492.

I will be carrying my possessions on my back in the traditional pilgrim way. I’ll be sleeping in humble hostels and eating a basic diet. My intention for this journey is to peel away a few more layers and deepen my relationship with our Higher Power. Some people refer to this as G-d, God, Creator, Source, Jesus, Buddha, etc.. Whatever guides you, please interpret as you please. I’m a strong believer that all paths are valid, deserve to be honored and all end up in the same place!  At any rate, I will be referring to this power as The Light from here on out. Is everyone cool with that? So, this journey ultimately is about spirituality, astronomy & astrology, archeology & ancient cultures, history & current events. And it is most definitely about Energy, Frequency and Vibration. This journey is about Gaia.  Let’s raise the Global Consciousness together!

Please join me me as I chronicle this amazing journey!
